Antique Beer Steins

The Beauty of German Beer Steins

Maybe it’s just me but I love beer mugs. It always makes me think of Christmas for some reason and now even the sight of them gives me a little tingle and makes me think of opening presents on Christmas morning. I also have a great love of German beer steins to the point that I’ve recently started collecting them. There are a few differences between German beer steins and beer mugs however so we shouldn’t class them as the same thing. For starters a beer stein contains a lid where a beer mug doesn’t. They have a unique handle and a hinged lid which will let you instantly spot a beer stein from a beer mug. It looks almost like a jug which is what the word stein actually means in German. So for all of you out there who like to brag about drinking beer by the jug then a beer stein is the way to go for you!

German beer steins can actually be worth quite a lot of money which is one of the reasons there are so many collectors out there. The other reason, myself include, is due to the beauty of the workmanship on some of the steins. It really is amazing. There is a fantastic amount of detail and effort involved in a stein. Like most collectibles the rarer the stein the more valuable it will be. So if you have some at home why not check on eBay to see if everyone and their neighbor owns that stein which you thought was a one off! You’re really looking for those which have not been massed produced in a factory. A steins value will also depend on the type of production technique used in its creation. Again, the rarer the technique the more valuable your stein is likely to be. Steins can have all sorts of designs etched on the outside. This can vary from nature scenes to coat of arms. One place you’re most likely to see a large collection of German steins is at Oktoberfest which is held in Munich each year. It is the largest beer festival in the world and as we all know the best way to drink a beer is via a German beer stein!

If you don’t know much about German beer steins and I’d recommend having a look online. I got hooked on their beauty and sheer workmanship involved in their creation. If appreciate this type of beauty or if you just want a new way to have your beer then why not check them out.
